More About

For decades, the L.A. Free Clinic provided the only free medical care available to countless uninsured citizens of Los Angeles. If you're a starving artist, that's where you go. If you're poor, homeless or a runaway, you get taken care of, too — not hassled. In observance of its 45th anniversary, the clinic hosts its 15th annual Extravaganza for the Senses. Food and wine flow in a cornucopia of gustatory delights from more than 40 L.A. restaurants, including Jar, Canelé, Angelini Osteria, Chaya and others. If you drink and eat too much and get gout — go to the Free Clinic! Proceeds from the silent auction directly benefit the clinic, which, as the L.A. Free Clinic, soldiered along for years on donations from the public and Elvis Presley, until philanthropist Haim Saban donated $10 million and everyone thought it might be nice to name a clinic after him. Pretty good for a bass guitarist who produced Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Sunset Gower Studios, 1438 N. Gower St., Hlywd.; Sat., July 21, 6 p.m., $125 (L.A. Weekly readers, use code xspartner for a 20 percent discount when purchasing tickets through the Saban site.) (323) 330-1670, thesabanfreeclinic.org.
