More About

Some restaurants fall gracefully into a kind of time warp, a testament to a dining era past. For certain places that's fine, but Spago is too good to become a museum. I'm not sure what a "totally different direction" means, but I'm guessing (and hoping) that the dedication to excellence, to technique, to balance will not be lost. Because those qualities will never go out of style.

I would personally love for Spago to return to its beginnings - like the man at the bar said - from the original one on Sunset, with beautiful seasonal food, simply prepared, accessible to everyone. And bring back the pizzas. They were the best, especially the one with julienned prosciutto, double blanched garlic and goat cheese. Wish I had one right now.

Tara, were have you dipped your fork. Would you think you can do better. If you could you would not be commenting on this article. If you were you would be writing for the LAweekly.. this article was not a review. Why would you review a place that was closing. The smart person would understand that they would come back when they re-open and do it then. It was more about the institution that SPAGO is in LA.... Tara let us know when you get a job writing for a magazine

Besha Could this review of yours be more full of shit?? How would you even know that the "original Spago until this weekend has been serving some of the most flawless cooking in Los Angeles"??? You barely have even dipped your fork into the culinary scene here as you admitted in your first article!!! How much more insincere and meaningless could you be in writing a restaurant review?! So where else have you eaten amazing "goulash with spaetzle"?? In Buda or Pest?? Seriously I need to know how in the world you qualified for this job - did you bullshit as much on your resume as you have here thus far in your reviews?? This review (if this is what you call it) is laughable to just sad. Please someone at the LAWEEKLY please take note on what is going on here which is basically sub par "journalism". Tired of your sub par reviews.

Tara. This didn't strike me as a review as much as a history lesson on Spago. Before dressing down Besha in her first month or two on the job, give her a break and wait for her review on the new Spago when it re-opens. This was an enjoyable piece with a teachable moment and perspective.
