More About

Reverend Chuck Palahniuk grew up in Burbank. Burbank, Washington, that is. His is a pretty remarkable story, one that proves truth is often stranger than fiction, although this man's fiction has been known to cause people to faint. His third novel, Invisible Monsters, was rejected by publisher W.W. Norton & Co. for its disturbing content. Palahniuk responded by writing Fight Club, which came out in 1996 (and was his first published novel). Three years later, a revised version of Invisible Monsters was released, as was the film adaptation of Fight Club. Great (or popular) films get lavish re-releases; why not books? Enter the Chuck Palahniuk Invisible Monsters Remix. The author calls it the "Criterion Collection" version of his fashion satire, and it's laced with new chapters and additional scenes, from which Palahniuk will read. There will be no post-squawk book signing, however: Pre-signed copies will be available for purchase, which is just as well, because you and your weak constitution just might be knocked out by the end. Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd.; Tues., July 17, 8 p.m.; free, resv. strongly recommended. tickets.skirball.org.
