More About

Over the past 20 years, L.A.-based JazzAntiqua Dance Ensemble, led by choreographer Pat Taylor, has built its reputation and won awards for a distinctive combination of Afro-CubanÐinfused modern dance and a commitment to performing to live music, mostly jazz, whenever possible. Focused on dance rooted in and inspired by the African diaspora, the new Dance@theHolden series and JazzAntiqua seem made for each other. For the series' debut event, Taylor and her dancers get a chance to do what they do best, with help from Brian Swartz & the Gnu Sextet. Under the title Portraiture: Stories in Jazz, the evening of new choreography and jazz music will include spoken-word contributions from Gia Scott Heron, daughter of late poet-musician Gil Scott Heron. Linger after the show for cocktails and conversation with the artists. Nate Holden Performing Arts Center, 4718 W. Washington Blvd.; Sat., June 9, 8 p.m.; $25. (323) 964-9766, ebonyrep.org.
Sat., June 9, 8 p.m., 2012
