It's a good night for lovers of bullets-and-fists-flying Hong Kong cinema with the New Beverly's double feature of A Killer's Blues and Too Many Ways to Be Number One (produced by Johnnie To and directed by his frequent collaborator Wai Ka-Fai).

Also, UCLA's Melnitz Movies is screening John Woo's Hard Boiled. (Tickets are free.)

Friday, May 25

It's the first night of the New Beverly's nine-day, seven-film David Lynch retrospective, which kicks off with a double bill of his first two features: Eraserhead and The Elephant Man. (Also Sat.)

Meanwhile, as part of its Queer/Art/Film series, Cinefamily is showing John Schlesinger's Sunday Bloody Sunday (about a hetero-/homosexual love triangle). The screening will be preceded and followed by a conversation with Lizzie Borden (director of Born in Flames and Working Girls, among others), whose work is greatly influenced by Schlesinger's film. Hang around Cinefamily till midnight to catch Robert Fuest's chiller The Abominable Dr. Phibes, starring Vincent Price and Joseph Cotten.

There are two Hayao Miyazaki films over at Cinefamily today as part of its monthlong foray into Studio Ghibli: an English-dubbed version of My Neighbor Totoro at 2 p.m. and a subtitled Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind at 7:30 p.m.

At the Aero, enjoy a luscious 70mm print of Alfred Hitchcock's mesmeric Vertigo.

Sunday, May 27

A lovely afternoon can be spent at Cinefamily beginning with an 11 a.m. brunch on the patio, followed by a screening of assorted shorts and W.C. Fields starrer The Bank Dick.

It's a dino-tastic triple bill at the Aero, starting at 5 p.m. with Jurassic Park, followed by The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III.
