More About

You can have your "Here's looking at you, kid" from Casablanca. For my money, one of the most quotable films of all time is National Lampoon's Animal House. A few classics: "Greg, honey, is it supposed to be this soft?" and, "You can take your thumb out of my ass any time now, Carmine." And of course, "Toga! Toga!" The movie's producer, Lampoon founder Matty Simmons has finally — dude, what took you so long? — written Fat, Drunk, & Stupid: The Inside Story Behind the Making of Animal House. The title comes from Dean Wormer's assessment of Bluto, played by John Belushi: "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son." Animal House began as a few Chris Miller–written stories in National Lampoonabout his fraternity experience at Dartmouth and was made for a paltry $2.7 million. It's lewd and crude, with a food fight scene to end all food-fight scenes, but there's a genuine sweetness to it, not to mention a moral about the uppity class. Even Bluto, with his "zero-point-zero" GPA becomes U.S. Senator. Simmons reads and signs at Book Soup, 8818 Sunset Blvd., W. Hlywd.; Thurs, May 3, 7 p.m. (310) 659-3110.
