The Last Bookstore is a jubilant anachronism, a jewel of downtown, a place to get lost in for hours, until you're snapped out of bibliophilic bliss by that evening's event, reading, workshop or performance. On the heels of their sold-out Occupy This! production, "Art As A Weapon: 99 Poets" will be a "mass gathering" of the city's most vibrant wordsmiths, brought together in a busking frenzy in preparation for the upcoming program, "Guerrilla Camp: Art as a Weapon," a media literacy workshop for the teens of Skid Row. (Yes, ye DTLA snoot walking the $700 designer dog: they exist.) Come "celebrate the transcendent power of art and the limitless possibility of the human spirit" by "advancing media literacy through the spoken word." The Last Bookstore, 453 S. Spring St. (ground floor); Sat., April 28, 2-10 p.m.;. free, but donations gladly accepted. (213) 488-0599, lastbookstorela.com.
