Alan Zweibel

Vicki Abelson's "Women Who Write" literary salon has attracted such big names as Jackie Collins, Marlee Matlin, Carol Leifer, Laraine Newman Bruce Vilanch. This week, comedy writer extraordinaire Alan Zweibel reads from his latest book, Lunatics, a novel co-written with Dave Barry. Zweibel — an original Saturday Night Live writer, among loads of other credits — told us about the collaborative writing process, "We alternated chapters. I wrote the first one which set up the character that I'd be voice of as well as the beginning of our plot, then e-mailed it to Dave who established the voice of his character and moving the story forward. We did this for 61 chapters. It was like doing a novel by improv. It was a lot of fun. So much so that we are still sending each other chapters even though the book came out in January." Is it twice as funny? "Twice as funny as what? The Grapes of Wrath? Yes. The Old Testament? Yes. The New Testament? No." Zweibel reads with Maurita Corcoran, Stirling Gardner, Nancy Daley. Private residence in Montrose; Tues., March 27, 11 a.m.; $10, resv. required: vickiabelson@gmail.com
