Ever since Mickey Rooney spouted the words "Hey, let's put on a show!! in the 1939 film Babes in Arms, theater folk have been echoing that sentiment as if putting on a successful show requires only a barn and some local talent (ever seen Spider-Man?). Somehow Rooney and co-star Judy Garland managed to pull it off (which unfortunately can't be said for Spider-Man), but if you'd like to be privy to the personal and professional antics that take place during a play's rehearsals, see Noises Off, a British farce by playwright Michael Frayn that depicts a laugh-till-you-pee-in-your-pants view of the theatrical production process. The story follows an ill-prepared acting troupe backstage and onstage during a dress rehearsal and performances as they miss cues, switch props, screw up lines and engage in backstabbing. As a result, all hell breaks loose during the play's run. It'll make you appreciate Spidey all the more.
