Think of the great pairings of the past 50 years — Jordan and Pippen; Lennon and McCartney; peanut butter and jelly. You can't seem to imagine one without the other, and then you're probably mixing peanut butter with bananas or something crazy like that. And one of these great combinations has to be Woody Allen and Diane Keaton. Now, there is a lot of competition, but Annie Hall … well … is a classic. That's one reason Diane Keaton is amazing. Here are the others: her role in The Godfather trilogy ("It was an abortion, Michael. An abortion."); she co-starred in a bazillion Woody Allen movies; and, yes, she was even in Father of the Bride. And now, at the Hammer Museum, you can come listen to the Oscar- and Golden Globe–winning actress as she reads from her new memoir, Then Again. And what will surprise you is that the book isn't filled with juicy Hollywood gossip worthy of a TMZ bit — there are mentions of Pacino and Woody, however — but her memoir is filled with moments revealing Keaton's true personality and her complicated and touching relationship with her mother. For anyone interested in understanding the woman behind Annie Hall and her eternal sexiness, then this reading is for you.
