Andy Warhol's muse gets yet another consideration under the direction of Bauhaus/Love + Rockets bassman David J, whose experimental sonic opera and theater piece Silver for Gold (The Odyssey of Edie Sedgwick) on the life and death of the pop art icon begins its five-night run. At the nexus of the swinging, 1960s New York art scene, a hazy Hotel Chelsea, a psychedelic factory party and the innards of Sedgwick's own increasingly spotty consciousness provide the backdrop for poor Edie's downward spiral into drug-and-fame-fueled infamy. Played with drenching ennui by the beautiful Darcy Flowers, the misunderstood model and party queen persona is led by a decapitated horse head guide into her well-known yet darkly personal flameout. With stylishly assembled video work by MC THIS (aka Justin Hammond) washing over the coordinated syncopation of David J's song cycles -- they go from melancholy drone to soaring, shimmering freak-outs and back again -- the performance brings another level to Edie's story, and this version borders on the tip of Greek tragedy.
