Jonathan Gold Reviews Le Comptoir

Chef Gary Menes' latest appears, for a bit, at downtown's Tiara

Before the dessert, Menes pulled out a plate of gooey cheese he'd made himself from organic cream and infused with truffles. The dessert itself involved a different kind of truffle, the chocolate kind, dunked in beignet dough and fried crisp, a dessert that was halfway between three-star cookery and a county fair stunt. It was good if you didn't think about it too hard, an ideal end to dinner at a restaurant I was not sure I would ever see again.

This is an interesting review of the Los Angeles down town located restaurant. Restaurant's popularity is all depends on food and service given by restaurant owner and staff.

^_^ Thanks for mentioning LQ + us (and the act of "scratching" our Crispy Tofu Balls.. I actually haven't used that reference before too). Quick FYI (if anyone or Jonathan cares), we are in fact the Tran family.. and my first name is Nguyen! :) My first name is pronounced w/ different inflections than the last.. but no matter. We will assume the identity of the "Nguyen family" today haha ;)

Great write up on Gary Menes' place. I'm hoping we can try it before he ends his run.

Team SK (aka Tran, Nguyen ;D)
