These days, the 1 percent are fond of pushing back the green-and-red of Christmas until it locks loins with the red-white-and-blue of July 4 while you, in your infinite procrastinating wisdom, will make something charming and/or pathetic just hours before Santa comes down the chimney to feed his diabetes. But now there's a middle ground: the Etsy Craft Night: Christmas Ornaments (or "Xmas Ornaments," for all you atheists). It's led by the crafty Mark Montano (author of The Big-Ass Book of Crafts), and for a measly five bucks you'll get drinks and snacks, plus all the materials you'll need to make the ornaments that show you care or, at the very least, demonstrate an illusion of caring. Pinecones, glitter, construction paper, semispoiled salsa it's all fair game, and everyone will know it's beautiful because it's a gift you made yourself. Get it out of the way now, because there are more pressing things to do for the holidays like taking a broom handle and gathering up cobwebs to convince your kids it's Christmas cotton candy! Craft and Folk Art Museum, 5814 Wilshire Blvd.; Thurs., Nov. 3, 7 p.m.; $5. (323) 937-4230, cafam.org.
Thu., Nov. 3, 7 p.m., 2011
