Known for its polished sophistication, technical precision and demeanor as cool as the fog rolling over the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Ballet is a class act to open the 2011-12 dance series at Segerstrom Center for the Arts (the renamed Orange County Performing Arts Center). The visit brings a sampling of shorter works and a tragic romance interpreted by the company's artistic director. The midweek mixed bill promises George Balanchine's elegant 20th-century masterpiece Symphony in C, plus choreographer-in-residence Yuri Possokhov's Japanese-themed RAkU and Trio from SFB artistic director Helgi Tomasson. The weekend performances are devoted to Tomasson's full-length Romeo and Juliet. For previews of this and the rest of the SCFTA dance season, go to scfta.org.
