More About

Known for its polished sophistication, technical precision and demeanor as cool as the fog rolling over the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Ballet is a class act to open the 2011-12 dance series at Segerstrom Center for the Arts (the renamed Orange County Performing Arts Center). The visit brings a sampling of shorter works and a tragic romance interpreted by the company's artistic director. The midweek mixed bill promises George Balanchine's elegant 20th-century masterpiece Symphony in C, plus choreographer-in-residence Yuri Possokhov's Japanese-themed RAkU and Trio from SFB artistic director Helgi Tomasson. The weekend performances are devoted to Tomasson's full-length Romeo and Juliet. For previews of this and the rest of the SCFTA dance season, go to scfta.org. For the real thing go to SCFTA, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa; Tues.-Wed., Sept. 27-28; Fri., Sept. 30, 7:30 p.m.; Sat., Oct. 1, 2 & 8 p.m., Sun., Oct. 2, 2 p.m.; $17-$120.
