Yarning Is Not a Crime

If gang members knew how to knit or crochet, the world would be a safer place. Yarn bombers have become a new breed of street artists who, rather than deface property with spray paint, make their mark on parking meters, trash cans, newspaper dispensers and public statues with cozy and colorful creations (the most notable being Griffith Park's bronze bear statue, recently outfitted with a green crocheted hoodie courtesy of a masked vandal who goes by the name of Captain Hook). Co-presented by the Arroyo Arts Collective, Yarn Bombing 18th Streetwill have more than 50 of the knit wits who attend 18th Street Art Center's monthly Stitch & Bitch meetings display their handiwork as part of the center's Art Night, which includes other craft artists, open artist studios, poetry readings, performances and more.
