Best Government Site: ZevWeb

“Allow me to be blunt,” writes L.A. County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky on his website. “It’s going to be a mess out there.” He’s talking about the planned 53-hour closure of the 405 next month, and he’s displaying a frankness you don’t often find on a government site. Yaroslavsky’s characteristic mug sits atop Zev.LACounty.Gov, but the site rarely features ribbon-cuttings or giant novelty checks. What you get are journalistic stories, such as a recent preview of Tim Burton at LACMA, written by bloggers with bite. Could a politician’s site actually become a daily destination? That seems to be Yaroslavsky’s plan, and he might be the guy to pull it off.
