Before you see Steve Coogan and Michael Winterbottom's The Trip, opening this week, why not revisit Roger Corman's decidedly, er, trippier film of the same name? Two years before Easy Rider (the other half of tonight's double bill at the Aero, starting at 7:30), Jack Nicholson scripted and Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper starred in this LSD-sploitation flick, set in the Laurel Canyon/Sunset Strip scene of the 1960s. Fonda is scheduled to speak between films. He'll also be around Friday night for a double feature of the Western he directed, The Hired Hand — the one time he worked with his father, Henry — followed by Steven Soderbergh's The Limey.

Fri., June 10

Sion Sono, Japanese mastermind of Love Exposure — the bat-shit/brilliant four-hour religious panty-porn epic that ran for a week last month at Cinefamily — will be at the theater this weekend for a mini-retrospective of his work, including an encore of Love Exposure (Saturday, 2:30 p.m.), screenings of Hair Extensions (Friday, 11:59 p.m.) and Noriko's Dinner Table (Saturday, 8 p.m.), and a preview of his new feature, Cold Fish (Friday, 8 p.m.).

Sun., June 12

Takeshi Miike's 13 Assassins is still hanging on at a few theaters around town, including the Playhouse and Sunset 5.

Tues., June 14

LACMA's Tim Burton series continues this week with just one screening, a matinee of the John August–scripted Big Fish (1 p.m.). Turn it into a Ewan MacGregor Learns About Fathers double feature by pairing it with Mike Mills' Beginners, which is still playing at the ArcLight and Landmark.
