Abrams & Michael Giacchino." Giacchino's one letter away from the Valhalla of the EGOT — having won an Emmy, Grammys and an Oscar — while Abrams will have just started to come down from the high of the opening of his film Super 8, which may finally finish the job of debunking the wonder of the alien that John Carpenter's The Thingstarted after E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial opened the same year three decades ago.
