Dance + Film = Love

Contemporaneous with the embrace of video as a mainstay of contemporary concert dance, YouTube, Facebook links and mobile apps have made dance on film ubiquitous. Not so when director Lynette Kessler and her crew launched the Dance Camera West Film Festival 10 years ago. Early on DCW established itself as one of the premier festivals of dance film. Now DCW opens the celebration of its first decade with a Thursday reception that includes a screening of world dance film. Friday's events look to the future with a daylong series of panel discussions with dance writers, reviewers, commentators and dance filmmakers on an array of intriguing topics, all open to the public. Events and screenings of dance films continue throughout the weekend. Events are free, but require tickets or a DCW pass. Peruse the complete updated festival schedule and get tickets at dancecamerawest.org. Opening event at the Getty Center, 1200 Getty Center Drive, Brentwood.; Thurs., June 16, 7 p.m.; free with ticket; dancecamerawest.org.
June 16-19, 7 p.m., 2011
