No More "Tity"

If Cher needs someone to bequeath her Bob Mackie gowns to now that she no longer has a daughter, she needn't look further than yours truly. We share the same heritage and dress size, give or take a few pounds. And I would never upstage my famous mother, unlike Cher's real daughter, now son, Chaz Bono. In her 1998 coming-out memoir and 2003 follow-up, Chastity Bono revealed that the firstborn of one of the gay community's biggest icons was gay herself. A little over a year ago, Bono went public with the news that she was undergoing gender reassignment. In Becoming Chaz (which premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival and airs later this month on Oprah's OWN network), directors Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato — the team that brought you Party Monster, Inside Deep Throat and The Eyes of Tammy Faye — document Bono's transition into a man, from hormone injections and having her breasts removed to legally changing her name to Chaz Bono. Bono chronicles more of his journey in his latest book, Transition: The Story of How I Became a Man, which includes a real-time diary and photographs.
