How Green Was Your Lecture?

Sustainability and going green is just sooo chic these days, but many folks — including environmental and social justice activists Julia Butterfly-Hill and Daryl Hannah — began living earth-friendly lifestyles long before it was fashionable. For more than two years, Hill lived atop a 1,500-year-old redwood known as Luna to protest its destruction at the hands of loggers. Hill later co-founded the Circle of Life Foundation and continues to agitate the establishment by practicing tax redirection and protesting far and wide. (In 2002, Hill was deported from Ecuador for protesting Occidental Petroleum's planned incineration of an Andean cloud forest; four years later, she protested the sale of the South Central Farm.) Actress Daryl Hannah has lived "off the grid" for more than two decades. The Pasadena City College Sustainability Committee presents "In Conversation With Julia Butterfly-Hill and Daryl Hannah," an informal discussion of environmental issues, social justice and sustainability.
