Play Busty for Me

Her life reads like something torn from the headline of a grindhouse film poster. Actress Tura Satana was gang-raped, trained in martial arts to exact revenge on her attackers, mentored by silent-film comedian Harold Lloyd, dated Elvis Presley but turned down his wedding proposal, broke her back in a car crash and was shot point-blank by a jealous lover. The Grindhouse Film Festival pays tribute to the incredible life of the violently busty Tura Satana, who died Feb. 4 in Reno, in this fitting double bill of two of her most famous films. Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (1965), the Russ Meyer crime film that put her on the map with her role as snarling arch-bitch Varla, doubles with The Doll Squad (1973), the Ted V. Mikels–directed trash opus in which she stars as part of an all-girl kill squad in a James Bond–like adventure saga that Mikels swore for years was ripped off and turned into Charlie's Angels.
