Looking over the gallery openings roster for Sat., April 9, it's clear that spring has sprung in earnest in Culver City. Sparing art lovers the madness of a single all-in gallery night, several new shows opened the Saturday before or after instead — but it's tonight that the marquee names are out in force. To find the galleries rocking the big-draw art-star action tonight, start on Washington east of La Cienega and work your way back west. Roberts & Tilton delivers Kehinde Wiley: The World Stage: Israel, another chapter in the artist's blockbuster portraiture series exploring the globalization of youth culture (5801 Washington Blvd.; thru May 28; 6-8 p.m.; 323-549-0223). Video artist Josh Azzarella, best known for his depopulated rendition of "Thriller," installs a selection of major works from the past several years as well as new pieces at Mark Moore (5790 Washington Blvd.; thru May 14; 6-8 p.m.; 310-453-3031). "Martha Cooper: Remix" turns Carmichael Gallery into a visual mixing studio, as dozens of artists including Kenny Scharf, Barry McGee and Shepard Fairey reinterpret images by the legendary music, skate and graffiti photographer (5795 Washington Blvd.; thru May 7; 6-8 p.m.; 323-939-0600). Kopeikin deviates from its mostly photography profile to welcome New York–based painter Rebecca Bird for another show of impossibly delicate and stormy watercolors of everyday disasters (2766 La Cienega Blvd.; thru May 12; 6-8 p.m.; 310-559-0800). And last but not least, expect a fashion-forward crowd to turn out for "D*Face: Going Nowhere Fast" at Corey Helford, a gallery show with corresponding, er, impromptu installations around the city from one of the United Kingdom's most popular and successful street artists (8522 Washington Blvd.; thru April 27; 7:30-10 p.m.; 310-287-2340). All listed galleries are in Culver City; most are open Tuesday-Saturday. Visit culvercity.org/culture/artgalleries.aspx for a complete list.
