Hey, You With the Funny Shorts

Fans of sites like The Onion and Atom.com are in for a weekend of LOLs at the L.A. Comedy Shorts Film Festival, a four-day fiesta mixing movies with schmoozing and drinking, which is essentially what L.A. is all about. Opening night commences with screenings of 4 Pounds by Josh Levy, Bad Dads by Derek Westerman, Sometimes Pretty Girls by Jeannie Roshar and Gary Anthony Williams, DILF by Geoff Edwards and The Adoption Agency by Nick Psinakis, plus short films from FunnyOrDie.com. Scheduled panels include "Paper to Pitch to Gettin' Rich," "Let's Get Digital, Digital" and "If You Want Something Done Write ..." The weekend's 90-minute blocks of short films get filed under headings like "Boys, Toys & Goys," "Male Pattern Badness," "Armageddon' Hungry," "Better Than Birth Control," "Shut Your Wormhole" and "Mo Money, Mo Ninjas." Our vote for best in show: Scott Caswell's Mega Racist White Man 2, a video game parody pitting an anime-esque hero against 8-bit Mexican illegals armed with leaf blowers.
