Lundi Lit

Leave it to former alt-newsweekly editors to do a spin on the Gras that is Lundi (Monday), the celebration before the Gras that is Mardi (Tuesday). Former Weekly eds Laurie Ochoa and Joe Donnelly are hosting Lundi Gras, a bayou bash for Slake, their new quarterly publication that's flooding (but not Katrina-style) L.A. with writing and photography that's sweeter than a praline. Tonight's carnival celebration is a tribute to the city that's risen like a bridge over troubled waters with art, readings, music, food and film that's all N'awlins. Festivities include New Orleans–inspired work including a reading of Bayouland by native son and author Hank Cherry, a graphic short story of Katrina as interpreted by assemblage artist Matjames, short films by the late N.O. filmmaker Helen Hill, the brazen beats of the New Orleans Traditional Jazz and Funeral Band, and food to get fat on from Crazy Creole Café.
