Dance Club Pick: Designer Drugs Within Reach

On Designer Drugs' new release, Hardcore/Softcore (out this week), the New York duo's intoxicating electro takes on an even darker, more ominous mood than their usual industrial-tinged party house mixes, seducing the listener/clubber with more potent lashings and brutal beat work. Designer Drugs' Michael Vincent Patrick and Theodore Paul Nelson are probably best known for their remixes (Little Boots, the Klaxons, even Mariah Carey), but their original material is quickly winning fans as well, and the pair are sure to weave in familiar floor staples and treacherous new trancers at their headlining slot at Control on Friday. Another turntable twosome, Mustard Pimp out of France, opens up, promising nouveau bounce with an old-school techno pounce. Tip: Get there early — the venue's been cracking down on capacity limits lately. Avalon, 1735 Vine St., Hlywd.; Fri., Feb. 25; avalonhollywood.com.
