Future Shock

Gene Maddaus' story about the city's proposal to sell its parking garages to help close the budget gap ("City Council Fears Driver Backlash," Jan. 14) brings this response from Ronwall: "Let's break this down. You are underwater on your house, you lost your job, your [credit cards] are maxed out, you need food. You decided to sell your oven for $300 — a one-time cash infusion. No financial adviser would agree that this is a good idea."

You might want to vett some of your independent escorts in the back of your paper. I got flat out mugged by a woman and her pimp two nights ago at a very fancy hotel. They have a text system where as soon as the "john" pays her the money, she texts the john - who she admits is there for "her protection" - on the other side of the door, and then she says she will need to double the three hundred dollar fee to six hundred for the "date." When the john refuses she tells him, he will have to take it up with the bodyguard, and then she feigns fear and says she will call 911 or scream until the door is opened, at which point they take off. Technically, I realized I wouldn't have much of a case (although, in the narrative of a P.O., we would have both argued it was for entertainment purposes to what end i don't know), so i didn't call the cops. I felt too humiliated. But LA Weekly Readers, beware of this very aggressive mugging scam. It made me feel worse than I already felt, desperate for the company of woman.
