Dance Club Pick: Witch House, Shmitch House

A new(ish) term to some, old (black) hat to others, "Witch House" has nevertheless continued to hypnotize fans of dark music for the past year, infusing everything with EBM/industrial influences and droney, midtempo sonic lashings. A founder of the scene, Robert Disaro (of Disaro Records) moved from Houston to L.A. recently, emerging at clubs like Killing Spree at Medusa Lounge. Now he joins forces with wicked writer Clint Catalyst and party promoter Rich Royal, who aim to debut a new, more all-encompassing Witch House experience called Alchemy in a decidedly unexpected venue: Palihouse in West Hollywood. Disaro and Killing Spree's Zane Landreth will spin the best of the genre, and the tempestuous atmosphere will be heightened by spoken-word performances (Zoetica Ebb of Coilhouse magazine and Jillian Lauren, author of Some Girls: My Life in a Harem) and mystically vampy visuals from Cosmotropia de Xam (Surrealistica Uniferno). Expect brutal beats, merciless words and bewitching style at this one. 8465 Holloway Drive, W. Hlywd.; Wed., Jan. 26; 10 p.m.; free with RSVP to richroyal@iamrichroyal.com.
