She's ba-a-a-a-a-ack!! Performance artist Vaginal Davis, who ditched L.A. for Berlin five years ago, returns for dejecta/protecta. From the chill of her adopted city — "I must have been out of my mind to move to a cold-weather country" — she describes it thusly: "it's not really a 'let's put on a show' in a mainstream entertainment-oriented way, but a performance installation that is a bit off-kilter and whimsical in my usual Vagimulic style. It's a collaboration with a very talented pool of people in the art, music, dance, literary, academic and film worlds, plus young lovesexy students from the local art colleges and universities. My work isn't for everyone. I'm an outsider artist so I love to be hated. It becomes me." MOCA's Jeffery Deitch offers this take: "The only way I can describe Ms. Davis' latest performance piece dejecta/protecta is to say it's a bit of Little House on the Prairie meets The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant as directed by Gregg Araki, featuring choreography by Mummenschanz." And when she's not onstage, Ms. Davis will catch up on her L.A. eats. "Looking forward to eating good Mexican food and El Salvadorean pupusas. There are no greasy-spoon diners in Germany and I miss counter life and endless coffee refills at Astro Family Restaurant in Silver Lake or the House of Pies. Let's not forget Philippe's French Dip, the Pantry and the Pacific Dining Car — yowza. I want to O.D. on all of that."
