More than 100 galleries pack up their best sculpture, video, painting, photography and prints and head this way, as the L.A. Art Show turns sweet 16. Known to have a taste for the classic and timeless rather than the trendy (don't call it "square"), more experimental components and edgier presentations have recently helped attract the hipness-minded. On-site highlights include a book-signing with renowned art historian Bram Dijkstra on Thursday at 4 p.m.; a panel on Feminist Art in L.A. featuring Betty Ann Brown, Rachel Rosenthal and other outspoken creative voices on Friday at 2 p.m.; a conversation on architecture hosted by Dwell on Saturday at 4 p.m.; and a Q&A with low-brow legend Robert Williams on Sunday at 2 p.m. Special crowd-pleasing curated exhibitions include the 53 Art Museum show of new art from China; a rare exhibition of an important private collection of Henri Cartier-Bresson photographs; Vox Humana, a massive street-art installation created on-site throughout the weekend, with its own closing party on Sunday at 2 p.m.; and a solo project by Flora Kao presented by Gallery 825. The opening-night party benefits the Art of Elysium, a Getty-approved arts organization that gives hospitalized kids a path to self-expression and creativity.
