It was the recipient of the International Documentary Association's 2010 Music Documentary Award, the Feature Film Audience Award at the 2010 SXSW Film Festival, and other film festival awards too numerous to mention. For Once In My Lifefollows the Spirit of Goodwill Band -- 28 musicians and singers, all with a wide range of severe mental and physical disabilities -- as they navigate daily life and prepare for a major concert, doing it with talent, humor and tenacity. Eliciting just as many smiles and laughs as it does tears, the film aptly shatters preconceived notions about what it means to be disabled. Following the screening will be a live concert by internationally celebrated band the Kids of Widney High, who write and perform original songs. Composed of students from Widney High School, a special-education school in L.A., the group started in 1988 as a songwriting class. This is an evening of entertainment you will not soon forget.
