CARTOONS!

Actively founding holiday traditions is a tricky business. You never know you're doing it while you're doing it, and all of the good ones, like It's a Wonderful Life and screaming at your drunken extortionist uncle's, are already taken. So the Alex Film Society throws caution to the wood-chipper with its inaugural Cartoon Hall of Fame Big Screen Event. It's full of the hardcore classic cartoons, as well as "a few you may never have heard of" (doubtful they mean Steve Peck's 1975 Bugs Bunny drug cartoon "Rabbit Habbit," but one never knows). Expect to see "The Rabbit of Seville" (1950), "Popeye the Sailor Meets Sinbad the Sailor" (1936), "Superman" (1941) and "One Froggy Evening" (1955). Yes, you've seen them a million times, but when was the last time you got up to see cartoons on a Sunday afternoon -- let alone on the big screen? Alex Theatre, 216 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale; Sun., Dec. 26, 2 p.m., $15. (818) 243-2539, alextheatre.org. --David Cotner
