RIBBING, CUTTING FESTIVAL

Kudos to the organizers of the bountiful Los Angeles Comedy Festival for spotlighting the comedian other comedians love to goof on -- none other than Gallagher. Maybe the prop-fueled entertainer has entered the cool phase of his career as he presents the debut of his Laying Down the Hammer show as part of the fest on November 10. In any case, the LACF kicks off with four days of comedy shorts features and pilots, followed by top local and national acts taking over the Acme stage. This year budding screenwriters can get tips on their Hangover rip-off at the "Turning Your Movie Idea into a Viable Screenplay" workshop with pros Christopher Lockhard and Cindy McCreety. The laughs last for more than two weeks, and as we've all painfully learned, we really don't need to stay home and watch Stuff My Dad Says. ACME Comedy Theatre, 135 N. La Brea Ave., Hlywd.; Thurs.-Sun., Nov. 4-21; $15, $10 online; Gallagher at Club Nokia; Wed., Nov. 10. Workshop: Sat., Nov. 6 , 2-5 p.m.; $40, resv. required. , $40 limited space is available. (323) 463-2942; www.lacomedyfest.com . --L.M.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Nov. 4. Continues through Nov. 21, 2010
