WE LOVE YOU TAYLOR NEGRON!

Vicki Abelson's Readings for Women by Women Who Write and a Couple of Men Who Do, Too features actor-writer-comic Taylor Negron, whose stories never fail to be enchantingly hilarious. He'll read "Tuesdays With Lucy," about his stint as Lucille Ball's intern. He even sent us an excerpt. So here: "At precisely 6:45, a green Country Squire station wagon with wooden doors appeared, and parked. From where I stood, I could see Lucille Ball, still sitting on the passenger side. Her hair was pink. Pink like the inside of a flamingo's hairbrush. I have never seen hair that color again, and it distracted me for a moment from the bizarre fact that Lucille Ball was crying huge tears, wiping her eyes. She got out of the car wearing an orange polyester pants suit that flared at the foot and was taller than I expected. I wasn't prepared for this Lucy, with no makeup, no false eyelashes on her swollen blue eyes — this human, sad Lucy standing before me in the hazing, fazing faded Hollywood light. Lucy darted in front of me up the stairs and through the throngs. The audience stood on their feet. They cheered for Lucy and for themselves. And in that room, like bees deliriously sucking up pollen from an abnormally bright, giant sunflower, they celebrated Lucy's TV offerings of undistracted happiness. Lucy seemed slightly disturbed by this adoration. Her face looked like a snake that had come out of its curl." Negron reads with Paul Levine (To Speak for the Dead), Claire LaZebnik (The Smart One and the Pretty One), and Abelson herself.
