GO ART YOURSELF
Brasil Brazil — the band so nice they named it twice and then realized they might have misspelled a word but were having such a good time they just forgot it — usher out 18th Street Arts Center's final ArtNight of 2010 with a vast and luminous cosmopoly of art and commerce. Brasil Brazil is the world-renowned duo of Ana Gazzola and Sonia Santos and their legendarily free and selfless Rio rhythms. Two exhibitions premiere tonight: Dorit Cypis' FabLab (Looking for Patterns) — which looks for hitherto unheralded patterns in her 30-year photographic and performance oeuvre, and Elena Siff's Making Change, a mixed-media piece for Internet about the marketplace of ideas. At 18th Street's Pasillos Gallery, they're using skateboard decks as canvas; and at the Highways Performance Space, the night just gets sassier and sassier with the X-rated stage musical Sexorcism: Eyelashes of the Damned. Not a dry seat in the house!
