BEST EXCUSE TO SAY "ABSINTHE MAKES THE HEART GROW FONDER"

The Green Fairy, the Green Lady, the Green Muse. No, this time we're not talking about pot. We're talking about absinthe, and even if you think you're a rock-solid drinker, put on your seatbelt. For the inexperienced, the process of drinking absinthe goes something like this: 1) Fill glass with absinthe. 2) Grab a spoonful of sugar. 3) Dip spoonful of sugar in absinthe. 4) Light sugar on fire. 5) Swirl enflamed sugar in absinthe and watch that you don't burn your fingers as the whole thing ignites. 6) Blow out flame. 7) Shoot. 8) Endure brief state of shock brought on by taste of liquid death. 9) Wait and see what happens. Will you hallucinate? Is that hooey? And what's the story with wormwood anyway? Questions such as this will be explored when Ted Breaux, professional scientist, absinthe aficionado and researcher, discusses the history of absinthe in a Culinary Historians of Southern California talk entitled History of the Green Fairy, Absinthe . Breaux has spent 16 years studying the spirit and is dedicated to spreading some truth about this massively misunderstood stuff. A reception with refreshments will follow, though we're not sure if absinthe is on the drink menu. Is it 5 o'clock in Prague?
