3 BILLION AND COUNTING "The death toll is mounting," shrieks the tagline of this dawdling, hysterical documentary, which may as well be named Every 12 Seconds a Child Dies From Malaria, and Why Haven't You Done Anything About It? Produced and directed by our on-screen tour guide Dr. D. Rutledge-Taylor — a concerned if dramatically self-righteous L.A. physician with an anti-aging medical practice — the film investigates the mosquito-borne disease responsible for hundreds of millions of deaths each year. As the doc and his team globe-trot around Africa, India and the U.S. to visit doctors and clinics, politicians and experts of questionably one-sided agendas (a piece of statistical data is sourced from a "serious scientist"), the doc's smoking gun reveals itself to be the 1972 ban of DDT, a controversial pesticide proved an effective weapon against malaria. Perfunctorily shot and edited, the project hinges only on Rutledge-Taylor's findings, which begin to raise eyebrows once pragmatic activism is thrown out the window in favor of the blame game. Nixon-appointed EPA head William Ruckelshaus gets compared to Hitler , Silent Spring author Rachel Carson gets vilified, and even President Obama is scolded while the filmmaker — who co-wrote the original Deborah Gibson song in the closing credits — smugly eats a bowl of berries sprinkled with DDT. (Aaron Hillis ) (Sunset 5)

I find it odd that the review said that the movie hinged only on Dr Taylors findings! There were many people interviewed, and quoted through out the film. Research from different people and from different times are included. Facts are facts. And “smugly” eat a bowl of cereal with DDT sprinkled on it? And why would that be smug? Is it smug that he knows it won’t harm him?

Honestly. How could anyone take such a review seriously? Totally washed over in emotionalism, I'm not sure how long he could take himself seriously without experiencing a breakdown...

The bottom line about this movie is this - we have been scammed! Told that DDT is harmful, dangerous, when all the while it is safe to use. I don't like being lied to and this fact based documentary reveals the lies, the deceit, the falsehood. Get informed - see the movie and see just how far down the rabbit hole you have been led.

This review is biased and absurd! No way Aaron Hillis paid attention in this movie. He's from New York -- the LA review is simply a copy/paste of a NY fool's posturing prattle. Go see this movie and make you own judgment! It's AMAZING, informative, exciting, full of solid evidence. Ignore phony, pseudo-sophisticated and jaded reviewers who need their ego's stroked by their nihilism.

If you actually knew someone in Africa you would know that malaria is the single greatest affliction of real life black people in Africa.
Obviously you only know of Africans through the nature channel, where you get to watched staged animal fights on land that actual black Africans could use to farm.

Some people said Rachel Carson had a lot of courage. Well, I say Dr. Rutledge has a lot of courage. It takes real testicular fortitude to take on the DDT ban, the EPA, and the environmentalists in your first film.
I totally disagree with Mr. Hills. I saw the movie and am very grateful to Rutledge Taylor for raising some very necessary questions. I've taken too many things for granted for far too long. Rachel Carson may have been totally wrong and tens of millions of people have died as a result.
I'm doing my homework and getting more informed on this issue. I suggest others do the same. This film is must see.

I saw the film and was very moved by the struggle and plight of the people still dying daily due to Malaria in this day and time. Don't let this review from a NYC critic keep you from checking it out. There is so much to this film that I really want to see it again. Dr. Rutledge travels to dangerous disease stricken countries to investigate the illness and surrounding poverty as a result of the EPA's ruling that shut down the ability to irradicate Malaria as we have in this country. Seeking and reporting the truth should cause one to move to corrective action and that appears to be the true motive for this film. The movie opens Friday in LA. Can someone please explain to me why I am reading the same old review from the Village View? So, if the reviewer won't take time to do anything "new", I will. As individuals we owe it to ourselves to get informed. DDT is safe, yet for decades we have accepted the opposite as being true. Do yourself a real favour - see the documentary - it's showing September 24-30, 2010 at Laemmle’s Sunset 5, 8000 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, 90046 p: 310-478-3836. If you can't make it there, at least see the trailer, available here (http://www.3billionandcounting.com/trailer.php) and check out the website here (http://www.3billionandcounting.com). Try "googling" it and read all of the reviews (good and bad) AND comments. There are some very informed commentators out there (which is more than can be said for the reviewer here). Research both sides of the argument - and ask yourself ...which are based on scientific fact and which are based on emotional propaganda? Malaria is preventable NOW. Ask yourself this...why isn't it being prevented right now? Who gains from allowing this to continue? What is the agenda?

I saw this film in New York and was immediately taken by the extensive research that was done to uncover the truth about how the public has been scammed regarding DDT. AS the saying goes "truth hurts" and we have been betrayed. This fast moving film uncovers all the angles. BTW I highly recommend the critic for this paper actually see the movie instead copying someone's review Go to www.3billionandcounting.com and see for yourself

Why are you running the same tiresome review? Can someone from your own establishment SEE the movie for themselves and THEN write their OWN assessment of the film? I saw it and it's BRILLIANT! I urge everyone to catch this documentary in LA and if you miss it go to the website and educate yourself. www.3billionandcounting.com You will be astounded!

This writing is "old" .. taken from Village View! WHY didn't you go and view the film yourself?? What are you afraid of? The Truth? I saw the film and DID NOT see it as a "blame game". That is left to those who operate from emotions (like Hillis) when they have no facts to back up what they say. Dr. Rutledge provided the raw truth which you would find refreshing...if you gave yourself the opportunity to see for yourself. Everyone should go to www.3billionandcounting.com if they can't get to see the film in L.A. which opens this Friday.
