Back for a 13th year, the Arpa International Film Festival , named after a river in Armenia, again puts the spotlight on Armenian, Middle Eastern and European filmmakers. Past honorees have including directors like Atom Egoyan (Chloe, The Sweet Hereafter). This year's program is highlighted by the French-language films in the inaugural Francophone-Fest Cinema, not to mention more than 40 other screenings, including: Namus, a restored 1926 silent (and the first feature film made in Armenian) on opening night; an animated retelling of Armenian folk tales; and a host of documentaries on subjects ranging from early 20th–century Armenian poet Eghishe Charents and Dr. Jack Kevorkian to contemporary Lebanese music in war-torn Beirut.
