The Hippest Trip in America — named after the VH1 documentary that aired earlier this year and featured interviews with Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Snoop Dogg, The O'Jays, Clive Davis and even the elusive Sly Stone, as well as former dancers — gathers the equally elusive creator/host Don Cornelius, Smokey Robinson and Jody Watley (the show's biggest breakout star who went on to have a successful recording career in the '80s) to boogie down memory lane. Together, they reflect on the program's humble beginnings in Chicago in 1970 and some of its legendary performances, not to mention all the bad fashions, bad hair and dance crazes that taught a left-footed country how to get down.
