THE LAST MOVING PICTURE

Every June and August, a little blue bus known as the Echo Park Film Center Filmmobile travels across the city to show a variety of classic movies at locations associated in some way with the films. It gives new meaning to "motion picture." Tonight is the last event in this summer-screening series. The movie is the 1916 D.W. Griffith silent masterpiece Intolerance. It will be shown at the onetime location of the studio that made the film, which these days is a Vons parking lot. After an introduction by silent-film historian Bob Birchard, the movie will be projected on the side of the bus, and Dublab will be on hand to provide a unique sound track. Just think of the Vons store as a really, really big concession stand.
