Love That Dirty Water

Some truth-tellin': Before you go brown-bagging it at The 17th Annual Long Beach Crawfish Festival to get your Louisiana fix, crawfish are freshwater critters. See, crawfish don't take kindly to polluted waters, so you can scarf down these NoCal stream and river suckers with a clear conscience -- not even a mite close to any BP-tainted locales. Plus, these here crawfish will be served on an L.A. beach, so all you have to worry about is ingesting the residue of cruising leisure boats and cargo ships, marine debris and -- if you're swimming -- whatever's spewing from the city's storm drains. But the crawfish? Fresher than a tabby that's licked his joy parts clean. They'll be served up Cajun-style with red baby potatoes, corn on the cob and remoulade sauce. The entertainment, however, is strictly Louisiana, with Mark St. Mary Louisiana Blues and Zydeco Band, BluesBox Bayou Band, Bennie & The Swamp Gators and A.J. Gibbs The Mydeco King. There's also a bounce house, so you can chow down, throw up and eat over again.
Sat., Aug. 7, 12-11 p.m.; Sun., Aug. 8, 12-10:30 p.m., 2010
