Nightranger: Evil Wo-Men

Last week was filled with divas, drag queens and dicks (well, one Dick — Andy), and Nightranger hasn't even had an Outfest outing — yet. From a sexy new WeHo hot spot to an S.F. tranny invasion to appearances by some of L.A.'s sauciest pop-culture satirists, it was a very giddy — and gay — week.

Silver Lake's venerable Vista Theatre was a feast of frightful flamboyance late Saturday night, as San Fran's most infamous cross-dressing horror maven, Peaches Christ, offered a screening of her first major-release film, All About Evil, with an outrageous "4-D spooktacular" preshow. The film, produced by Darren Stein (Jawbreaker) and written and directed by Christ's alter ego Joshua Grannell, stars Natasha Leone as a wacko movie-house proprietress whose foray into horror movie–making becomes a little too real. It's pure bloody B-movie brilliance, as was Christ's live-choreographed song-and-dance spectacle ("Gore-Gore Girls!") featuring stars from the film (Thomas Dekker, Jade & Nikita Ramsey, Ashley Fink and Anthony Fitzgerald) and Frisco's freakiest queens (our fave Christ sidekick: "flawed and tragic" Martiny). We actually mistook a few wigged ones at the event for some of our own fave local cross-dressers (awkward!), but we bet we're not the only ones — L.A. and S.F. definitely have some drag doppelgängers!

Video montages and interviews with two big female stars in the film — Cassandra Peterson (aka Elvira) and Mink Stole — rounded out the premovie entertainment, making the actual screening a late, late show indeed; we didn't get out of the Vista till 3 a.m.

Grannell may be new to creating full-length features, but he's no stranger to these kinds of multifaceted cinematic spectacles, or movie spoofs. His collection of short films — Tran-ilogy of Terror — featuring titles such as A Nightmare on Castro Street (co-starring ELay's own Squeaky Blonde), can be seen on his Web site. Christ's "Midnight Mass" movie nights and stage shows in S.F. are legendary, bringing out patrons for an interactive screen scene that includes dressing up in theme-appropriate costumes. We hear ultraviolet lace was flying during last month's Purple Rain night, and we're contemplating a Frisco-disco trip in August for "Night of 1,000 Showgirls" celebrating the cult classic's 15th anniversary with "an army of 100+ lap dancers." FUNNY GLADY
Evil patrons looking for a good lead-in event found it in Nadya Ginsburg's uproarious one-woman show, Nadyalogues, at the Gay and Lesbian Center earlier Saturday (so much so that she offered half off tickets for those Vista-bound later). The self-proclaimed "edgy Jew-Talian Tracey Ullman" is beloved for her mirthful original characters, such as "Babka" (a Russian bikini waxer and lounge singer) and "Belinda the Vampire" (a guidette vamp/metal chick/cocktail waitress), not to mention spot-on impersonations of pop divas including Britney Spears, Madonna and Cher (all of whom are portrayed in Ginsburg and photog Austin Young's video series, The Worm). Wigs and makeup help with each transformation, but it's Ginsburg's gift for dialect and diction that truly makes her become these fabulous icons. Her Maddy in particular is perfection, meshing the Material Girl's nasal pitch, subtle English enunciations and melodramatic pauses. She got the vox too, as she showed on Mz. M's imagined soon-to-be hit, "Vaseline the Lense."

Ginsburg's queer following is not surprisingly huge, so an interpretation of gay idol du jour Lady Gaga was inevitable. It's gotten her the most press ever. "Al Roker Face," a parody of "Poker Face" all about the Today Show host and weatherman, has garnered her tens of thousands of YouTube views and scored her a recent appearance on Today, with Big Al himself interviewing. BOUGIE BODIES
We giggled in unexpected places last week too, like the new "bourgeois discotheque" known as Coquette (Thursdays inside Boudoir, formerly Coco DeVille), thanks to Andy Dick, who was making the WeHo rounds. Shockingly, this was our first proper face time with the freaky, self-proclaimed trisexual actor, but we've had plenty of mutual pals and near-miss encounters over the years. Dick seems to leave people talking wherever he goes, that's for sure, and he's been kicked out of the best clubs in town.

That didn't happen Thursday, but he did ask one of our gal pals — completely straight-faced — if he could "fuck you with my tennis-racket dick?" When she refused, he promptly approached a guy at the bar and started grinding on him, even though he was apparently there with his "new boyfriend" Andrew Burns (a bartender at Cocktail Wax, known for getting patrons sloshed and smooth at the same time). Burns, by the way, told us C-Wax is currently filming its own reality-TV show after just "vajazzling" Kathy Griffin on her D-List show. Glam bam, thank you ma'am.

Watching Dick's antics was amusing, of course, but it was the mad mix at Coquette that was really entertaining. The club, from wonder boys Rusty Updegraff (Beige) and Billy Burgess (Society) has that magical swirl of sass and class, club-kid attitude and homo hauteness that you don't see much on this side of town anymore. Adjacent to the sleek celeb-hub STK, Boudoir has done away with Coco's mod-ish décor and gone for a straight sexy bedroom feel, all billowy curtains and gleaming chandeliers, which made an opulent backdrop Thursday for the likes of Phyllis Navidad (Shits & Giggles) on the decks. The revelers included everyone from Candis Cayne (Dirty Sexy Money, Nip/Tuck, Drop Dead Diva) to comic duo Jessica & Hunter Amazeballs (recent hosts of LOGO's "New, Now, Next Awards"). Like Ginsburg and P. Christ, they've got a YouTube channel too, and all three are, as J&H would say, "hilarballs."
