Dance Club Pick: They Got Soul: Blackeyed Soul Club and Hungry Beat

Thursday, Jul 8 2010
Old soul, groovy psych and indie-pop sounds make for a sweet and sweaty weekend. The monthly mash known as Blackeyed Soul Club may have said farewell at Medusa Lounge last year, but it returned with a couple of real shakers at new venue the 3 Clubs a couple months ago, and it's a nice fit. Get out the go-go boots, girls, because the free fete happens again this week, with all the mod, garage and sex-machine sounds you can handle. DJs Jackie Hoodoo, Jason Pandora and guests Mahssa + Laurent spin. 1123 Vine St., Hlywd.; Fri., July 9; free; threeclubs.com. The quirky, jerky dance mixes of Hungry Beat! — from "Ronettes to Mo-Dettes," "Tears of a Clown" to "Million Tears" — are always a hoot ... as are the hip moves on the dance floor. Now twice a month at La Cita, don't miss beat DJs Michael (Part Time Punks), B-Rok (Substance), Marion (Squaregirls/Dublab/KCRW), YY (Dublab) and Goodwill (Substance). With the right tunes and vibe, even L.A. shagsters ain't too cool to dance. 336 S. Hill St., dwntwn.; hungrybeat.blogspot.com.
