FANCY THIS

Like the magical land of Brigadoon emerging periodically from the ether, Raiford Rogers Modern Ballet materializes each June. The annual summer appearance is tied to Rogers' insistence on top-flight dancers and his ability to augment annually the best local freelance dancers with those on summer hiatus from Los Angeles Ballet and other national ballet companies with the combination of ballet and contemporary dance chops required to articulate Rogers' evocative, minimalist and always musical choreography. Among the dancers, look for Melissa Sandvig, a regular who returns after missing last year's show when she became a finalist on So You Think You Can Dance . Beethoven fans rejoice: Rogers has focused his attention on Beethoven piano sonatas -- No. 29 in B flat major, No. 30 in E major and No. 32 C minor.
