LIKE A VERMIN

Remember when the world waited with baited breath to see what state of undress Madonna would be in next? Sharon Oreck's book, Video Slut: How I Shoved Madonna Off an Olympic High Dive, Got Prince into a Pair of Tiny Purple Woolen Underpants, Ran Away from Michael Jackson's Dad ... So I Could Bring Rock Videos to the Masses, recalls the bygone era of MTV's mini movies, before reality TV killed the video star. (YouTube is better suited to stupid pet tricks.) The Oscar-nominated and Grammy-winning producer was a teen welfare mom who took film classes before starting O Productions, going on to work with directors like Herb Ritts and Mary Lambert on some of the biggest vids of the '80s and '90s: Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game," Janet Jackson's "Nasty," Prince's "When Doves Cry" and Madonna's "Material Girl," "Like a Virgin" and "Like a Prayer." Imagine being close enough to throw the Madonna in front of a hungry lion. Oreck reads and signs.
