WAR? LET'S DRINK TO THAT!

If you're one of those peaceniks who believes that honoring those who have died during military service somehow "endorses" war, this Memorial Day take a good look around at the 10,000 vets who wander the city streets. Then get a grip, nix the poolside barbecue and join the Volunteers of America Los Angeles and the Rotary Club at the City of Angels Wine Fest to raise funds for the Rotary House, a new 20,000-square-foot homeless-service center. Construction is still under way, but the downtown facility houses dozens of homeless men and women, and offers transitional housing and referrals, as well as job training and placement with a focus on reintegration for vets. Serve the greater good while sampling fermented juice from 30 California wineries, chowing down on fare from the Patina Restaurant Group and helping to raise funds for the center. The goal is to increase the residential capacity to serve 1,800 occupants yearly. Make this holiday meaningful.
