In June, Roadside Attractions will release Winter's Bone, the film adaptation of Daniel Woodrell's 2006 novel about a 17-year-old girl (Jennifer Lawrence) who, as surrogate caretaker to her younger siblings, must comb the Missouri Ozarks, a lion's den of crime and addiction, searching for her absent father, who has sold the family home to post a jail bond. The gritty drama from director Debra Granik -- whose previous film, 2005's Down to the Bone, garnered much acclaim and helped to put actress Vera Farmiga on the map -- nabbed the Grand Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival; LACMA will present Winter's Bone in a special sneak-preview presentation this week. Granik and several members of the cast will be on hand for a Q&A following the screening; Newsweek's David Ansen will moderate.
