GREY'S EYE

Tonight, "4G" stands for "geriatric Golden Globe-nominated Grey" -- Joel Grey, to be precise, as he presents and signs his latest book of photography, 1.3: Images from My Phone. Changing focus from his earlier photography books that were so artfully composed and delivered via professional cameras, Grey ventures bravely into the corners of the cityscape, armed this time with his trusty Nokia 133. His eye snags on insistent colors, fueled by banality and the ephemeral qualities of peripheral vision; his website carries with it the decidedly Dave Berg-like title "Looking Hard at Unexamined Things." "For me," Grey reveals, "taking pictures is like asking questions." No word if his snapshots answer questions like "What good is sitting alone in your room?" or if people who need people really are the luckiest people in the world," but you take what you can get.
