HOORAY FOR HONG KONG, ET AL
The 2010 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival serves up the past year in Asian and Asian-American cinema: Au Revoir Taipei (pictured), Clash, Bodyguards and Assassins, The Actressesand The People I've Slept With hit the screens along with tribute showings of Enter the Dragon and The Chinese Connection; a special panel on Bruce Lee celebrates the spin-kicking icon's 70th birthday. The big features in a nutshell? Au Revoir Taipeifollows dumpling server Kai, who transports a suspect package for a mob boss in exchange for a plane ticket to Paris. Johnny Nguyen and Veronica Ngo take on French gangsters in the action-heavy thriller Clash, while the fall of the Quing dynasty unfolds in Bodyguards and Assassins. The mockumentary The Actresses follows Korea's biggest stars, as they bring enough cattiness and egos to fill a sequel. In The People I've Slept With , Angela Yang, a sexually inclined party girl who makes baseball cards of her intimate conquests, finds herself sifting through her past in order to track down the father of her unborn child. (Screenings also take place at Sunset 5.)
