HOL(L)Y SHIFT

An astonishing onstage presence, dancer Holly Johnston simultaneously pushes the physical limits of her body while maintaining an extraordinary, centered fluidity for an effect like liquid fire. This hyperphysical style is reflected in her choreography for her troupe Ledges and Bones and has attracted dancers keenly attuned to Johnston's view of dance in overdrive. She helms this weekend's program, which marks her welcome return to performing after a two-year break. Titled Shift, the evening includes a premiere and two revisited pieces with sufficient changes to be described as re-creations. The new work, 3 Veils, showcases the talents of Alex Crow, Stephanie Jamieson and Jessica Stephenson. The returning dances are Tracing Echoes and Politics of Intimacy, the latter with music by Paul Dresher. Sounds like Johnston has returned from her hiatus with her creative engines recharged as both the dancer and dance maker.
